Eguavoen to lead Super Eagles against Ghana and Mali in March

 

In the absence of a permanent Super Eagles coach, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Department, led by Austin Eguaveon, would assume responsibility for overseeing the Super Eagles’ operations. This includes selecting players for the team and maybe managing the games.

 

Austin Eguaveon and the NFF Technical Department were responsible for selecting the Super Eagles to participate in the upcoming friendly matches against Ghana and Mali in Morocco.

 

Jose Peseiro before his contract ended in February also had an input, the list would was compiled with the provisional invitation sent out in the third week of February.

 

sources say, it is possible that the NFF may name a new coach prior to the games in Morocco. In the event that the NFF and the new coach are unable to come to a contractual agreement, Austin Eguaveon will assume responsibility for overseeing the games in Morocco.

 

The two friendly games are billed for Marrakech Morocco on 22 (vs Ghana) and 26 March (vs Mali).

 

 

The list includes major figures like Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Stanley Nwabali, Francis Uzoho, Ojo Olorunleke, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi, Bruno Onyemaechi, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Kenneth Omeruo, and Chidozie Awaziem.

 

Leicester midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who was absent from the AFCON 2023, along with in-form strikers Cyriel Dessers, Tyronne Ebuehi, Jamilu Collins, and Taiwo Awoniyi, will be rejoining the team.

 

The remaining names are Sadiq Umar, Raphael Onyedika, Alhassan Yusuf, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Nathan Tella, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru.

 

Joe Aribo and Samuel Chukwueze were omitted from the invitation list for the friendly games, but William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina are now out due to injuries.
