EFCC slams Emefiele with new charges

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has lodged a new 26-count indictment against the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), accusing him of misconduct and corruption.

 

Justice Rahman Oshodi of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja, will arraign Emefiele on Monday, April 8, for charges including accepting gratification, accepting gifts through agents, corruption, receiving fraudulently obtained property, and conferring corrupt advantage on associates, all in violation of the Corrupt Practices Act.

 

Rotimi Oyedepo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and the prosecutor for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), brought the additional charges. Rotimi Oyedepo submitted the accusations on April 3.One of the charges states that GODWIN IFEANYI EMEFIELE, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, abused his authority by directing the allocation of foreign exchange in the amount of $2,136,391,737.33 without a bidding process.

This arbitrary act is detrimental to the rights of Nigerians.
