Bob Risky to spend Eid-il-Fitri holiday in detention
Controversial crossdresser Bobrisky, whose real name is Okuneye Idris, might spend Eid-il-Fitri holiday in detention.
On Friday, April 5, 2024, a Federal High Court in Lagos found Bobrisky guilty after he admitted to the charges of misusing Naira currency brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC has lodged a legal complaint consisting of six charges against Bobrisky. The first four charges pertain to the misuse of Nigerian currency, while the remaining two charges relate to the accused act of money laundering.
Prior to reading the accusations, the EFCC prosecutor requested the court dismiss counts five and six.
Bobrisky admitted his guilt to four charges of misusing Nigerian currency.
Nevertheless, the defendant sent his plea for clemency, clarifying his lack of knowledge of the regulations pertaining to naira misuse and vowing to enlighten his social media followers on the subject.”I am a prominent social media influencer with a substantial following of over five million individuals.” I intend to create a movie on my webpage to enlighten everyone about the act of ostentatiously throwing money in the air. I refuse to repeat it, Your Majesty. I express remorse for my acts, my Lord. “I am a novice offender,” Bobrisky stated throughout the court proceedings.
In order to prepare for the sentence, Justice Abimbola Awogboro ordered that the individual remain in EFCC custody until April 9, 2024.Consequently, Justice Abimbola Awogboro instructed that the person should be in EFCC custody until April 9, 2024, when the sentence will take place.
The Federal Government has officially designated April 9 and 10, 2024, as public holidays in order to observe and honor the Eid-el-Fitr festival.
The ministry’s permanent secretary, Aishetu Ndayako, published a statement in which the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made this declaration.
In its recent article, the PUNCH noted that Bobrisky’s anticipated sentence on April 9 aligns with the Eid-il-Fitri holiday.
Consequently, the hearing is unlikely to occur unless Justice Awogboro chooses to proceed with the sentence today, which is Monday.
Therefore, we expect Bobrisky to remain confined during his holiday period.
