Suspected IPOB members kill two policemen in Imo State
An assault on their patrol car along old Gariki Road in Okigwe, Imo State, on Saturday resulted in the deaths of at least two police officers from MOPOL 18 in Owerri.
The police encountered an unexpected ambush and attack while on patrol in Owerri.
The assailants, believed to be affiliated with the banned Indigenous People of Biafra and its subsidiary, Eastern Security Network, allegedly hurled explosives at the officers’ patrol car and engaged them in a prolonged exchange of gunfire.
According to reports, four other individuals sustained numerous injuries during the event.Henry Okoye, the state police spokesperson, verified the occurrence.The individual reported an unexpected attack on the police during their patrol duties along old Gariki Road, Okigwe, in the early hours of today, March 23, 2024.
The assailants, who were dissatisfied, tossed dynamite at the officers’ patrol vehicle and engaged them in a prolonged exchange of gunfire. During the incident, two cops tragically lost their lives, while four others managed to survive the onslaught.
The Commissioner of Police expresses sympathy for the families, friends, and loved ones of the deceased officers.
He strongly emphasises that his command will not tolerate any assault on security personnel in the state.
The command assures the public of its unwavering dedication to apprehend and punish those responsible for this criminal act.
