The price of the domestic flight ticket has succumbed to the law of demand and supply as the Easter celebration approaches in Nigeria and across the world for the Christian community.
According to a report, Transport Fare Watch, released by the NBS (National Bureau of Statistics) on March 25, there have been fluctuations and outrageous increases in the space of about a month.
“In air travel, the average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes on a single journey was N88,000.00 in February 2024, showing a decrease of 2.20% compared to the previous month (January 2024). On a year-on-year basis, the fare rose by 18.03% from N74,558.11 in February 2023.
The report further established that “Rivers recorded the highest air transport charges (for specified routes and single journeys) with N100,000.00, followed by Kano with N96,000.00. Conversely, Abia recorded the least fare with N70,000.00, followed by Abuja and Kogi with N80,000.00.”
From the report above, it can be deduced that there was an increase in January, which presumably could be a result of New Year festivities. In addition, Nigerians flying from Rivers State will, however, bear the brunt of the increase.
