Tension has engulfed Okuoma village in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State due to the fatal shooting of 16 officers and soldiers from the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army.
The tragedy occurred when the deceased military officers reacted to a distress call following the communal conflict between Okuama and Okoloba villages in Delta State on Thursday, March 14, 2024.However, the situation took a sudden and unpleasant turn when youths encircled the military officers.Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, verified the deaths of the military men on Saturday.
The reinforcement squad, under the leadership of the commanding officer, was also assaulted, resulting in the fatalities of the commanding officer, two majors, one captain, and 12 troops.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has ordered a prompt inquiry and apprehension of individuals responsible for the abhorrent act. The incident has been reported to the Delta State Government. Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Acting Director of Defence Information, confirmed the event in a statement on Saturday. He stated that a reinforcement team sent to the village was also subjected to an attack.
