President Tinubu is secretly paying fuel subsidies without informing Nigerians.
Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, revealed this information on Monday during a conversation with journalists in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.
El-Rufai initially expressed his support for the removal of subsidy, even though he later criticised its implementation.
The president has enacted a fuel subsidy programme, which is currently in place.
“I have consistently advocated for the elimination of fuel subsidies,” he stated.
He stated that the steps implemented by the Federal Government as strategies to mitigate the consequences of petrol subsidy withdrawal were inadequate, leading to the subsequent reversal of the subsidy system.
However, the government has realized during the implementation process that it is necessary to reinstate the subsidy regime.
“Currently, we are spending a significant amount of money on subsidies, even more than before,” stated the former governor.
