Olumide Akpata, a candidate for governor from the Labour Party, has been summoned by the Edo State Police Command to examine suspected security breaches, namely the shooting incidents that were reported at the University of Benin (UNIBEN) last Friday.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the command’s public relations officer, informed the Benin City media of this event. According to Nwabuzor, the invitation was given to the LP candidate for governor by detectives on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, during the Political Desk Session at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
Recall that the Labour Party’s candidate for the upcoming September 21, 2024, gubernatorial election in Edo State was allegedly attacked by suspected political goons during an investiture event held by the UNIBEN Staff Club.
Apata, on the other hand, claimed that the attack was planned by both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the state government to assassinate him.
The command’s spokeswoman elaborated, stating that the invitation offered to Olumide Akpata was part of the police command’s crisis investigation.
In response to the inquiry, Kelly Ogbaloi, State Chairman of the Labour Party, confirmed receipt of the police invitation, stating his absence in Benin at the time the letter arrived but confirming his plan to accept the invitation.
