The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has apprehended nine individuals in connection with the killings of police personnel in the Ughelli region of Delta State.Egbetokun disclosed this information on Thursday during a managerial gathering of the Force.

 

He claims that the detained individuals are currently providing the police with information that will aid in apprehending the individuals responsible for the homicides.

 

On February 23, 2024, a total of six police officers lost their lives at Ohoro Forest in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.Meanwhile, there are currently six other suspects who are still on the loose and believed to be implicated in the killings.

 

Their deaths coincided closely with the assassination of 17 military soldiers in the oil-rich Delta State.

The event, which resulted in the deaths of the troops on a peace mission in the Okuama hamlet in Ughelli South Local Government Area, caused widespread anger and criticism throughout the country.

 

At the recent burial ceremony, military officials made a solemn promise to pursue and capture the individuals responsible for orchestrating the assault.

They emphasised that this incident would not discourage their ongoing efforts to eliminate criminal elements within the nation.

 

President Bola Tinubu posthumously bestowed national decorations on the deceased troops and granted scholarships to their children.
