Governor Bassey Otu’s government in Cross River State has unveiled a bold initiative to recruit a minimum of 6,000 additional educators in order to tackle the substantial shortage in the state’s education sector.Stephen Odey, the Commissioner for Education, announced this decision during a news conference in his office on Tuesday.
He underscored the pressing need for more educators, highlighting the current situation where some schools have only four or five instructors and numerous government agencies and institutions lack sufficient staffing.Odey described the actions taken by the Ministry of Education under Governor Otu’s guidance, highlighting the governor’s dedication to resolving the lack of teachers by sanctioning a recruiting campaign.
We will provide a range of incentives to maintain long-term interest in teaching positions, including targeting the recruitment of individuals from nearby areas, particularly those living in rural regions. In addition, Odey expressed that we would restore formerly marginalized instructors who have enhanced their qualifications as instructed, strengthening the teaching workforce even more.
Odey reassured the public that the Department of State Security (DSS) and the police are working together to address concerns about cultism in schools.
This collaboration demonstrates the government’s dedication to creating a safe and suitable learning environment for both students and educators.
