President Tinubu congratulates Senegal’s new president

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu congratulated Mr. Bassirou Faye on his victory as President of the Republic of Senegal. He also praised incumbent President Macky Sall for leading an election that was widely seen as peaceful and transparent.

Tinubu’s celebratory message is contained in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, headed ‘President Tinubu congratulates President-elect Bassirou Dionaye Faye and the people of the Republic of Senegal.’

He claimed that the results of the recent successful general elections in Liberia and Senegal, where he served as president, validated his long-held belief that democracy is deeply ingrained in West Africa and will only become stronger with continued support from good governance, justice, and equity for all.

In his capacity as ECOWAS Chairman, the President confirmed that the smooth running of the Senegalese election helps the sub-regional body in its endeavours to uphold peace and constitutional order and to foster closer relations among its member nations.

Senegalese citizens were congratulated by President Tinubu, who also assured them of Nigeria’s support and best wishes.
