NERC gives new instructions to discos

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued a new instruction to all distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria to guarantee the efficient execution of the new price regulation.

The regulator said that this action was taken by the power providers in order to offer maximum transparency to all electricity consumers impacted by the new pricing system, particularly those who were incorrectly reassigned to Band A.

The Commission recently instructed the companies to use only the newly approved Band A feeders listed in their April 2024 supplementary orders for vending to prepaid customers and billing to postpaid customers on their networks.

It is mandatory for all distribution companies (DisCos) to promptly publish on their websites the list of authorised Band A feeders that have been impacted by the tariff review.

All distribution companies (DisCos) are required to establish an online platform on their respective websites by April 10, 2024. This platform will enable customers to easily determine their current electricity consumption levels by inputting their metre or account numbers.

By Thursday, April 11, 2024, all clients incorrectly charged at the new rate must receive a refund in the form of energy tokens. Additionally, they must provide proof of their compliance with the Commission by April 12, 2024.NERC stated that it will oversee adherence to the aforementioned standards and will offer assistance to all parties involved as needed.
