“No man can be greater or stronger than society. It is society that builds men.”
On April 4, 2024, the Rivers State lawmaker, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Abiante, a member of the Federal House of Representatives representing the Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro federal constituency, established the importance of reaching a unanimous agreement to support the sitting governor of the state, Sim Fubara. He further emphasised the weight of the power of the people who make up society than on an individual.
In his most recent interview, he stated, “Every regime has a tenure, and that tenure is four years, renewable for another four years. As we speak, there’s a governor in Rivers State. We should allow and encourage the governor of Rivers State to lead the people.
“A man cannot serve two masters at the same time. You do your term and you leave; nobody has made himself. I don’t want to get into the details of how we got to where we got to begin from the 2013, 2014, and 2015 elections. I’ve been in the field. I don’t like to talk about myself. I’ve been in the field. I have four elections in three terms, and I can tell you how we get past those things and how we navigate through them.”
“No man can do it on his own; you need everybody to get things done. So, if you’ve done your term, take it that you’ve done your term. Encourage the man whose time has come to deliver to the people the premises that have been made.
“It will be wrong of anyone to put clogs in that wheel. No man can be greater or stronger than society. It is society that builds men. Men can only advance society’s course. Men don’t build society. It can only advance the cause of society,” he emphasised.
Recall that last year, in an oil-rich state, Wike claimed that Fubara was trying to seize control of his political network and was working with rivals. Albeit the godfather-son relationship between the duo has not fared well since he took office, it remains something that is wrong to let that rear its head in the entire government of the state.
